ACTIVE INTERN PORTAL

About this Opportunity
At Partners in Hope & Healing, we specialize in remote internships designed with your real-life needs in mind. We understand that finding a traditional internship site can be difficult—especially if you're in an area where options are limited or unavailable. We also recognize that many students are managing jobs, families, or other commitments while pursuing their education.
That’s why we offer a practicum experience that not only fits into your schedule, but actually draws from your day-to-day life. Instead of asking you to pause your responsibilities, we help you use them as a foundation for applying what you’ve learned in your degree program. Our goal is to create meaningful, flexible learning opportunities that support both your academic growth and your life outside the classroom.
However, this type of practicum is not easy. It will challenge you to think critically and stretch your understanding of how your academic knowledge applies to real people in real life. Interns in our program do not spend their time sitting around a water cooler chatting with peers—instead, they actively engage their learning as they live their lives, serve in ministry, and reach into their communities. Typically, every hour of recorded work is both practical and developmental, offering real-time opportunities to grow in your skills and confidence.
As an intern, you may also have the opportunity to connect remotely with individuals we serve through our various ministry offerings, assist with program development tasks, and even step into teaching roles when appropriate. We will do our best to allow you to virtually attend counseling sessions; however, participation in those sessions will depend on your availability at the times they are scheduled.
This is a hands-on, immersive experience that asks much of you—but also offers much in return.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Each required submission in the application process carries a time credit value. This means that the work you complete during the application phase not only strengthens your candidacy for the practicum but also earns you time credit equivalent to approximately one full week of internship hours (6.5 Hours) upon acceptance.
This built-in credit is intentional. It allows you greater flexibility at the end of the semester when your focus may shift to completing final academic requirements such as a thesis, capstone projects, final papers, or exams. By investing time now, you’ll have a buffer later when it matters most.
Vita (Credit: 3:00)
As part of the application process for the Partners in Hope & Healing Internship Program, we require the submission of a curriculum vitae (vita) or resume. This document provides a comprehensive overview of your educational background, relevant experience, ministry involvement, and professional skills, allowing us to assess how your current training aligns with the goals and responsibilities of the internship.
Because this internship is practical, hands-on, and closely tied to your academic development, your vita helps us:
-
Understand your academic progress and areas of study
-
Evaluate your current and past involvement in ministry or service roles
-
Identify any relevant skills or training that may contribute to your success in the internship
-
Ensure that the internship experience is appropriate for your level of preparation and development
Your vita also serves as a professional development tool, giving you experience in presenting your qualifications—an important skill in both ministry and professional practice.
Academic Transcript (Credit :30)
As part of the application process for the Partners in Hope & Healing Internship Program, we require an unofficial academic transcript. This document provides important insight into your academic progress, the courses you have completed, and your readiness for the internship experience.
Reviewing your transcript allows us to:
-
Confirm that you are actively enrolled in an accredited college or university
-
Verify that you have completed any prerequisite coursework relevant to the internship
-
Ensure the internship aligns with your current stage in your academic program (especially for practicum- or capstone-level placements)
-
Understand your academic strengths and areas of focus to better tailor the internship experience to your educational development
Your transcript also helps us confirm that the internship fulfills a required component of your degree plan, as outlined in your Degree Completion Plan (DCP). In doing so, we are better equipped to support your academic success and ensure that this internship meets institutional requirements for credit or field experience.
Letter of Intent (Credit: 1:00)
As part of the application process for the Partners in Hope & Healing Internship Program, we require a Letter of Intent to be submitted by each applicant. This letter offers a more personal and intentional expression of your goals, motivations, and readiness for this internship experience.
The Letter of Intent serves several important purposes:
-
Demonstrates Commitment: It shows that you have thoughtfully considered the responsibilities of the internship and are entering into it with a sense of purpose and seriousness.
-
Clarifies Goals: It allows you to articulate what you hope to gain from the internship, how it connects to your academic and spiritual development, and how it fits into your broader vocational or ministry goals.
-
Assesses Fit: Your letter helps us evaluate whether our internship structure and mission align with your values, learning objectives, and calling.
-
Introduces You Personally: While your transcript and vita give us a picture of your academic and professional background, your letter provides insight into who you are as a person—your passion, heart for ministry, and vision for growth
Ultimately, your Letter of Intent is a key part of ensuring a good match between you and the internship opportunity, creating space for a more meaningful, purpose-driven experience.
Salvation Experience Essay (Credit: 1:00 Hour)
At Partners in Hope & Healing, our work is deeply rooted in the Christian faith, and our internship program is designed not only to support academic and professional development, but also to nurture spiritual growth and ministry effectiveness.
We require a Salvation Experience Essay to gain a deeper understanding of your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and your spiritual journey. This is an important part of ensuring that you are entering this internship with a foundation of faith that aligns with our mission and the nature of the work we do.
Specifically, the Salvation Experience Essay helps us:
-
Understand Your Spiritual Foundation: Ministry work is not only practical and academic—it is deeply spiritual. This essay gives us insight into your relationship with Christ, which is essential for ministry and counseling contexts.
-
Assess Alignment with Our Mission: Our organization serves from a Christ-centered perspective. Understanding your salvation story helps us ensure that your values and spiritual convictions align with the faith-based nature of our programs.
-
Support Your Spiritual Development: Knowing where you are in your walk with Christ allows us to better support your spiritual growth throughout the internship experience.
-
Ensure Integrity in Ministry: Because you may serve, teach, or minister to others during this internship, it's important that your faith is personal and active—not just academic.
This essay isn’t about having a perfect story—it’s about sharing how your life has been transformed by Christ, and how that transformation shapes your desire to serve and grow through this internship.
Live Zoom Interview (Credit: 1:00)
As part of the application process for the Partners in Hope & Healing Internship Program, a live Zoom interview with Dr. Mark Painter is required. This conversation allows us to connect with you personally and assess your readiness for the unique demands of our remote, ministry-focused internship.
Prerequisite: All Requested items must have been summited and reviewed.
The interview serves several key purposes:
-
Assess Readiness and Fit: Dr. Painter will explore your academic and spiritual preparation to ensure alignment with the expectations and mission of the program.
-
Evaluate Communication and Professionalism: Since the internship involves remote work and virtual interactions, this interview allows us to observe how you present yourself and engage in a professional virtual environment.
-
Clarify Expectations: You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions and gain a clear understanding of your responsibilities, while we confirm that the internship meets your academic and ministry goals.
-
Establish Relationship: As someone who may provide guidance and oversight during your internship, Dr. Painter uses this time to begin building a supportive and mentoring connection with you.
